Since my last post, I’ve been thinking a lot about a very important time in progressive house. Looking back, 1999 seems to have been an especially important era because a lot of the early pioneers of the progressive house sound were really starting to come into maturation and show their full capability. This in turn raised the bar for newer producers and a ton of great music was released. Prior to this time, artists like Sasha And Digweed and many others were considered trance simply because the definition of progressive house didn’t really mean what it would come to mean later on. Back then, trance was a pretty vague, blanket term for a lot of different kinds of music, but then again every style of music that is going through its first evolutionary period needs some sort of association. Belfunk is by far my favorite Sasha track. True, he’s most known for Xpander which is phenomenal by every measure, but for me, Belfunk is a far better track.
